What you tell her
stays on your Mac.
Deciding what to do with what you ask happens on your computer. Try to pull it out with the cursor.

Understanding what you ask and choosing what to do happens on your computer, without sending it to the cloud.
What Emma remembers about you is kept on your Mac. You delete it whenever you like.
Only your account and your licence, if you create one. Never your conversations.
What stays on your Mac
The wake word is detected on the Mac. Deciding what to do with your request also happens on the Mac, without a language model.
- Your settings and the voice you chose: in
~/.emma/settings.env. - The contacts, terms and preferred apps you ask her to save: in a local file,
~/.emma/dictionary.toml. - Your secrets, such as the voice service key and anything you ask her to keep as a secret: in the macOS Keychain.
- Emma's logs: in
~/.emmaand your user's logs.
What leaves your Mac
To hear you and to speak, Emma uses a voice service. She sends it the audio of what you say to turn it into text, and the text of her replies to turn it into speech. That traffic goes straight from your Mac to the voice service, not through our server. It is the only thing that leaves the Mac while you use Emma. Deciding what to do, and what she does in your apps, stays on the Mac.
What our server keeps
Using Emma doesn't need an account. If you create one on the website, we keep:
- Your email and, if you give it, your name.
- Your password as a hash, or your Google or GitHub id if you sign in with them.
- Your plan and your licence keys.
- Each licence's activations: a random id your Mac generates and the computer's name.
Emma only contacts our server to activate a licence. It sends no usage or conversations.
Server logs include IP addresses. We use them to limit repeated attempts and prevent abuse.
Waitlist
If you leave your email so we can tell you when she's ready, it's kept in Cloudflare and in Resend, which we use to send you that note.
This website
This website uses Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity only if you press «Accept» in the cookie notice. Until then neither one loads, and if you press «Decline», neither does.
- Google Analytics counts the pages viewed, where you came from, your device and browser type, your approximate country and clicks on buttons such as «Tell me». Google signals and ad personalization are off. The data is kept for 14 months.
- Microsoft Clarity records how you move through the page (clicks and scrolling) to build heatmaps, with the text masked and without recording what you type. Since you accept measurement and not advertising, Clarity stores no cookies. Microsoft keeps recordings for 30 days and heatmaps for 13 months.
- Neither one loads on your account pages (sign in, sign up and account), and neither receives your email.
Your answer is kept in this browser for 6 months; after that we ask again. You can change it any time from “Cookie preferences” at the foot of every page. If you decline after accepting, we delete their cookies from this site.
This is only the website. Emma, the app, sends nothing to Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity.
Payments
When payment opens, it will be handled by a payment provider that acts as the seller. We never see your card numbers.
Deleting your data
You delete your account from your account page. To delete everything Emma kept on your Mac, open Terminal and run:
It removes ~/.emma, the background service, the logs, everything Emma stored in the Keychain and the macOS permissions you gave her.
