Emma and Siri: how they differ
Siri is Apple's assistant and comes with your Mac, your iPhone and your other Apple devices. Emma comes with nothing: you install her, on the Mac only. Here we compare only what we can show about Emma; Apple explains Siri.
What Emma does differently
- She understands Spanish and English mixed in one sentence, without changing the language in the settings.
- She decides with a local brain, with no language model: every decision you see on this site is one she really made.
- Before she sends or deletes anything, she reads it back and waits for your "yes".
- Her code can be read on GitHub.
What Siri has and Emma doesn't
- It comes included and free with your Apple devices; Emma will have a paid licence.
- It also works on iPhone, iPad and the watch; Emma only on the Mac.
Both at once?
Yes. Emma doesn't replace Siri or turn it off: both can live on the same Mac.
When she arrives
Emma is coming to your Mac very soon. She needs macOS 14 or newer on an Apple Silicon Mac. Leave your email at the foot of this page and we'll tell you the day you can install her.
